Description
This petite replica of a fine Alaskan flower appears to be cast of metal, and then painted. The back of the flower remains gold; leaves are green and the flower shades from deep purple at the base to palest pink at the top.
At the base of the flower is a round crystal with an Aurora Borealis finish. The chain measures 18 inches long and includes a 2-inch necklace extender if you wish it to be a bit longer.
The fireweed, known in Britain as the Great Willow Herb, creates glorious fields of color in the fall when it is in bloom, sometimes turning a whole hillside into a vision of purple.
The fireweed is such a useful plant. When the first shoots come up in the spring, they can be eaten with vinegar and oil. As the plant begins to form very small leaves, it can be cut up and put in a salad.
Blossoms can be used for tea, and the flowers become an ingredient in honey. The stalk, when blooms are gone, can be separated into strands and used as a kind of twine. The plant also has medicinal uses, such as drawing pus from a wound.
Wear this necklace as a reminder of sommer and the lovely fireweed bloom.
